Our Gas Diploma is aimed at new entrants to the industry who are looking to become Gas Safe Registered engineers. Some prior experience within the industry is preferable. All applicants to the course will be required to undertake brief assessment of their learning needs to ensure that they are able to complete the program and progress to ACS assessment. In addition, candidates will need to have a registered gas engineer to act as their mentor whilst they undertake their ‘on the job’ gas work experience.
Our course is delivered through a Managed Learning Programme (MLP) which is;
• A structured programme of guided learning designed to meet the requirements for new entrants the gas industry compliant with IGEM/IG1 supplements 2 & 3
• Recognised by IGEM and E&USkills as an entry route to the Nationally Accredited Certification Scheme (ACS) and subsequent registration with Gas Safe Register.
The course is structed to enable you to learn and still earn. You will need to attend the training centre between for your first week theory in which we will deliver the bulk of the course foundation theory. You will then need to attend the last Thursday and Friday of each month until completion of your Guided Learning Hours. Teaching will take place in our onsite classroom and workshops where a range of subject matters will be covered.
Our Gas Diploma Course consists of 4 main stages being:
Stage 1) In Centre Training > Candidates will partake in classroom and workshop-based learning. We try to not keep you stuck in class. You will be under the full supervision of qualified Trainers and Assessors who will guide and support you through the course.
This is the time to make mistakes and ask any questions of your trainers.
Access to our online members area will be available where you can view and download a range of materials and complete some learning activities remotely. You may also intermittently attend to complete some assessments, exams, and workbooks. This could be the odd additional day here and there, or a few days in a row. This will help you get completed quicker.
Stage 2) Portfolio > this element is the onsite working experience you will obtain with a qualified gas registered engineer. You will be completing stages 1 & 2 at the same time. Selected jobs will need to be documented as you go along. We will be on hand to help you with documenting this process.
Stage 3) Diploma Examinations > upon completion of your portfolio, you will be required to return to the centre to finalise your diploma. All theory exams, workbooks and practical assessments and your portfolio will by now be completed in full and sent for certification.
Stage 4) the final stage to getting Gas Safe registered is completion of the ACS Initial Examination & Assessments. You will have some gas refresher training prior to starting your exams where a range of subject matters will be covered to prepare you for your exams.
This will conclude with ACS level theory and practical examinations In CCN1 core gas and your appliances. Upon successful completion, and once the awarding body has issued your ACS Initial certificates, you are then able to apply to the Gas Safe Register
